GOU Academy Important Information

We are preparing for a new season here at GOU and look forward to seeing you all out on the fields! Please visit each section for information regarding this upcoming season! The Spring Season officially starts on February 15th, 2017!

Developmental Academy

For kids with little to no experience, the focus is on love of the game, learning proper technique and learning the basic rules. Players can begin the season after they turn 4, up to age 14 (depending on enrollment). Players will receive practice with a professional trainer to build skills as well as practice and play in a Fridaynight game with a volunteer coach. Fall season runs mid-August to November. Spring season runs mid-February to May.

Bridge Academy

The Bridge Academy is a new program beginning in the fall of 2015 and it is designed to give our experienced Academy players a more challenging environment to further develop their skills before they move to our competitive program. Players are evaluated during Developmental sessions to see readiness to move up. They will receive a higher level of training to help them move to the next level. The coaches will receive increased education and training to help the player develop to their full potential.

All new players interested in playing in our U7/8 Bridge program will go through a Bridge assessment, so please let us know as soon as possible so that your child can be assessed for our Bridge program. After an evaluation, we will notify parents whether or not we feel your child is ready for the Bridge program.

Coerver Training

In the Spring of 2013, GOU partnered with Coerver to offer professional training to all of our U7-11 In-House players as well as a similar program for our U5-6 players. Coerver is a nationally recognized program known for increasing the technical proficiency of young players. In our continuing efforts to unify our training program and provide the highest level and consistency of training possible for our youngest players, we will be using professional training for our in-house program.

Practice Schedule

The official season and practices will start on February 15th. The practice schedule is as follows:

Developmental U5/6: Tuesday and Thursday 5:30pm-6:30pm

Developmental U7/8: Monday and Wednesday 5:30pm -6:30pm

Developmental U9/10/11+: Monday and Wednesday 5:30pm-6:30pm

Bridge U7/8: Tuesday and Thursday 5:30pm-6:30pm

(The times listed above are subject to change when daylight savings time begins and/or we are able to use lighted practice fields) We will notify all parents via email of any changes made to the practice schedule.

Practices at the U5/6 level will be run by a GOU Trainer. All other age groups will be run by Coerver soccer program. Please look out for the yellow Coerver flag, as this will be where your child will be practicing. All youth will train together in a group on various fundamentals and skills.

All practices and games will be held at Austin Tindall Park.

Rosters/ Coaches

Rosters will be released during the second week of practice, once we receive our final registration numbers. We also ask that we not have any roster requests, as all youth will be practicing together. If there is an urgent request for a roster change, let us know.

Scrimmages “Games” (Friday Night Lights)

The first game will be on March 3rd at Austin Tindall Park. The game schedule will be released the second week of practices. The season will run through May 5th. All games will be held on Friday evenings! Scrimmage nights are designed to be fun and help develop your child’s soccer skills. We use the term scrimmage instead of “games” because we want to develop their skills and not focus on the concept of winning!

Volunteer Coaching/ Team Representative

If any parents are interested in volunteer coaching at GOU for the Developmental Academy, please reach out to Christian at ([email protected]) to get set up. It is very important that we get you registered and your background check completed. Let us know what age group you would like to coach. We are looking for enthusiastic parents to help out at practices and coach on game days. Coaches will receive a registration fee waiver for their child participating at the GOU Developmental Academy level.

We require all coaches to attend practices and game nights! It is important that you are involved to help the Coerver and GOU Trainers during their training sessions so that the kids know who their coach is for scrimmage nights. Coaches will not run their own sessions, but will assist our staff. If there is no coach to represent the team, the team will not be able to participate. We recommend that you assign a back-up team representative in case you are unable to attend trainings and scrimmages.

Uniforms and Equipment

Please remember to wear cleats and shinguards to all games and practices! Uniforms can be ordered from the following links:

The Developmental Academy will order the Developmental Kit. Please order all items in the link. There are two game day jerseys in red and white. There is also a training jersey in red that is to be worn at practices.

The Bridge program will order the Bridge Kit through the same link.
